Quality Control Analyst performs various scientific analyses to evaluate the quality of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished goods and ensure compliance with established standards. Conducts and validates various biological and chemical quality control (QC) assays. Being a Quality Control Analyst compiles, interprets, and documents statistical data from testing processes to either confirm compliance with established quality standards or identify deviations. May be responsible for establishing specifications for conducting assays and writing standard operating procedures. Additionally, Quality Control Analyst typically requires a bachelor's degree. The role of a quality control technician is to inspect, sample and conduct laboratory testing on various construction materials (Stone, Sand, HMA) according to the appropriate standard test methods. Employee will perform tests to ensure quality of products at the point of production, shipping, and arrival upon the jobsite. When any plant or jobsite problems arise, individual will be expected to analyze the problem and develop solutions. Person will visually inspect stockpiles, material sources, and truck loads at aggregate plant and HMA plant sites. This individual will verify test results of outside testing laboratories and maintain accurate and timely records on test data, product quality, and state agency requirements.
Responsibilities:
1. Inspection, Sampling, and Testing
- Conduct routine testing on stone and sand products to ensure that gradations and other material properties are being maintained at target values.
- Conduct special testing during RAP processing operations to ensure that target gradations and asphalt contents are being met.
- Conduct testing on HMA production to ensure that government agency specifications are met (NYSDOT, PENNDOT, FAA, etc.)
2. HMA Mix Designs
- Creates and updates HMA mix designs to meet ever-changing specifications
3. Continuing Education
-Stays up to date on all training requirements and certifications.
- Knows the current state specifications and understands any changes made from year to year.
4. Recordkeeping and Housekeeping
- Ensures that the testing laboratories are kept neat, clean, and all tools and equipment are properly maintained, calibrated, and in good working order
- Completes all required paperwork and maintains a neat, organized file system
- Ensures all state required approvals and certifications are kept up to date
5. Safety
- Understands and complies with OSHA and MSHA regulations
- Understands and complies with corporate safety policies and requirements
- Skilled in the safe operation of trade-specific tools and equipment
6. Environmental Compliance
- Maintains recordkeeping for various environmental regulations, including above ground storage tanks, air quality permits, stormwater management, and others
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Proficient in math, reading, and writing skills
2. Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, especially in explaining complicated testing procedures
3. Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
4. Must be able to maintain composure in stressful situations and act in a professional manner
5. Ability to lift 50 pound objects repetitively
6. Ability to tolerate working outside in all weather conditions
7. Ability to stand for long periods of time and walk on uneven terrain
8. Must be willing to work various hours when required, including overtime, nights, and weekends
9. Must be willing to travel between and work at all of Dalrymple Gravel’s plants when required (Chemung, Coopers, Fisherville).
Education and Experience Requirements:
1. High School Diploma is required
2. Associates or Bachelors Degree in Math or Science is preferred
a. May be waived with sufficient work experience
3. 2 or more years of prior work experience in construction materials testing
4. Valid driver’s license
