Position Overview

Schenectady Steel is seeking a Structural Steel and Welding Inspector to perform inspections during the fabrication of structural steel.

Job Duties

• Perform dimensional and visual inspection of shop fabrication which includes fit up, weld preparations and final welds, welded and bolted connections and final paint inspections.
• Responsible for fabricated materials conforming to drawings, shop standards, specifications and applicable codes.
• Record and maintain in-process and final inspection records for quality assurance and production control.
• Help and assist shop personnel with interpretation of drawings and specifications.
• Observe company safety policy while working.
• Inform Shop Superintendent of defects on fabrications.

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints, 5 years of experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of various methods of weld testing procedures .
• Must demonstrate knowledge of various weld test procedures and knowledge of AWS and AISC codes applicable to steel fabrication and erection.
• Must be able to measure parts, bent shapes and overall steel dimensions accurately.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• CWI preferred but not required (Employee will work towards this as a goal).
• Current AWS CWI and/or UT and/or MT Certifications will take precedence (Applicants will work to achieve these certifications).

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 45 per week

Supplemental pay types:

• shop drawing reading: 5 years (Preferred)
• Quality control: 1 year (Preferred)
