Reporting to the Plant Director, this leadership role will be responsible for production, production methods, lead process and quality improvements and related activities in the manufacture of our food and medical plastic packaging film. As an essential member of our leadership team, your guidance and overlook assures that our customer specifications are spot on and packaged according to quality standards and guidelines in a safe and efficient manner.
Analyzes plant performance with the Plant Manager to determine and prioritize improvement opportunities and strategies to achieve plant business objectives.
Works directly with production and quality departments to develop, implement, and manage improvement projects focused on quality, scrap, and productivity.
Monitors and improves safety and efficiency of production processes through the use of key performance indicators, directing operational staff, and plant personnel.
Provides day-to-day process troubleshooting of safety, quality, and efficiency issues.
Supports capital improvement projects from concept to commissioning and hand-off to production leadership staff.
Suggests and implements technical solutions to eliminate future occurrences.
Inspects, documents, and trends process conditions to assure consistent outgoing quality.
Monitors productivity levels and identifies scrap rate improvement opportunities by production line. Directly supports operators in problem solving.
Approve departmental production and support overtime and monitor staffing requirements consistent with demand and product mix.
Assists in the investigation of customer improvement opportunities (CIO’s) to provide timely follow-up and implement effective corrective and preventative actions.
Works collaboratively with scheduling, warehousing, engineering, and quality to support and improve productivity and quality reliability through proactive machine repair and improvement.
Provides hands-on expertise in materials and plastic extruder and film converting machinery/processing.
Supports and oversees product development initiatives and production during trial runs and scale up efforts supporting growth initiatives and/ or modification of processes and continuous improvement implementation.
Provides support and leadership to SQF
What we need from you.
B.S. Degree in a technical discipline preferred. At least 5 years blown extrusion technical leadership (required) and leading a production operation.
Proven experience in plastic extrusion processing principles and plastics manufacturing techniques.
Able to implement a wide range of improvements on the manufacturing floor in a timely manner. Able to manage multiple project simultaneously.
AS400 MRP and Production Reporting. JDE and WEBEFF capabilities a plus.
Strong statistical process improvement skills including the use of process control charts and quality control capabilities.
Exceptional leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate production, quality, and engineering plans
Experience taking a fact-based approach to decision making using 6-Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and SPC principles.
Ability to provide leadership in Continuous Improvement Teams.
ISO 9001:2015 or Equivalent Experience.
