    JOB SUMMARY: The Sports Events Manager will work directly with the Director of Sports & Events and the Sports Sales & Events Manager on all sports-related tournaments and competitions in the Region. This role will work closely with event rights holders, local funding jurisdictions, and business community members to strategically plan and provide service support to make sports tournaments and competitions successful and maximize economic impact for the Richmond region.

    MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS: Position is a management role and as such, requires overnight travel, after-hours work, monitoring email and online activity after hours and on weekends. Requires use of personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license. Position must exercise decorum and always represent the organization with the utmost integrity. This job description outlines the general responsibilities and requirements for the stated position and in no way is an exhaustive list.     ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Interaction with event rights holders and national governing bodies to establish relationships and determine group’s specific needs based on size, special characteristics and requirements in order to facilitate a successful event. Possible considerations involve pre-promotions including attendance at prior year events, electronic and print collateral materials, identification of specific vendors/services needed and possible off-site venues.
    • Facilitation of on-site event support for sports related tournaments and competitions booked through RRT, including, but not limited to, event staffing support (volunteers or athletic trainers), coordinating hospitality for college coaches and VIPs, vendor and off-site venue sourcing, presentation of amenity gifts to clients, on-site visitation as appropriate.
    • Pre and Post Production calls with event rights holders and venues when appropriate to ensure rights holders needs and expectations are communicated.
    • Liaison between the event rights holder / national governing body, hotels, partners, vendors and jurisdictions.
    • Coordinate with other RRT departments to ensure timely and accurate response to clients/meeting planner needs.
    • Develop regional and national relationships with rights holders and industry partners.
    • Manage and maintain all account information from assigned markets in RRT’s customer relationship management system (currently SimpleView.)
    • Develop customized services proposal for events as part of bid packages as assigned.
    • Collect hotels room night pick-up or post-event attendee information and ensure incentives are paid.

    ESSENTIAL EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

    - Prior hospitality sales experience, effective and creative problem solving, oral/written communications - including presentation skills, listening skills, strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, commitment to superior customer service, awareness of meetings and convention trends locally and nationally, goal-driven, excellent project and time management.
    • BA/BS degree or equivalent vocational/technical training (4 years formal education)
    • 3 years or more (extensive and varied) experience in the sports and events industry.
    • Primary contacts are with reporting staff, other managerial employees, top management, and customers.
    • Knowledge/experience working with housing services providers a plus.

    PHYSICAL DEMAND: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to:

    • Walk, sit, bend and squat.
    • Communicate and receive information.
    • Concentrate, recognize, remember, reason, and make decisions.
    • Grab, pull or bend items.
    • Lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
    • View items at a close and distant range
    • Sit, walk, and stand for extended periods of time.
    • Use computers for extended periods of time.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Heated and air-conditioned office environment. Noise level is usually low to moderate. Maybe required to occasionally travel, work off-site, and represent the organization at work-related functions.
