- Provides day-to-day leadership for a team of radiation technicians in the implementation of the AFTAC radiation protection program. Determines priorities and directs team in performance of a variety of radiological surveillance, radiation safety, and health physics auditing functions in all radiation areas.
- Ensures proper radiation protection training and monitoring. This includes a dosimetry program for over 1,000 personnel, an array of airborne platforms, 10 detachments, four operating locations and more than 60 unmanned equipment locations around the world.
- Performs scientific assessments. Makes recommendations 06 concerning corrective actions for identified weaknesses or deficiencies in radiation protection and/or nuclear safety programs involving sample collection, chemical processing, mixed and hazardous waste, decommissioning, and construction.
- Represents AFTAC for radiation protection issues while interacting with a variety of installation and functional area

Qualifications
This is a GG-13 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-13 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-13 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions
BASIC REQUIREMENT:Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.

- - courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: knowledge and experience in calculating radioactive effluents from facilities. Knowledge and/or experience performing radiation safety and health physics auditing functions at radiation use activities to such as a radiochemistry laboratory, broad scope programs, and research programs. Knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying Titles 10, 21, 40, 42, and 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Mastery knowledge of and experience in performing complex external dosimetry, internal dosimetry, shielding activity, calculations, radiation safety and health physics auditing functions, knowledge of NRC and 91(B) licensing processes, scientific and technical knowledge of radioactive materials use, permitting, licensing, behavior and regulations, and practical knowledge of the Air Force and management of radioactive materials in the Air Force.
2. Skill in communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, especially extemporaneous communication on scientific and technical topics. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships, building consensus and
coalitions, negotiating, and resolving conflicts with a variety of individuals and organizations. Knowledge of security
procedures to maintain control of classified material.
3. Professional knowledge and mastery of advanced principles, theories, and practices of health physics and the physical sciences as they apply to radiation protection areas and able to apply new methods and theories to newly developed technologies as they are used in USAF operations. Professional knowledge and experience in calculating radioactive effluents from facilities.
4. Professional knowledge of all pertinent guidance for radiation protection including, but not limited to International
Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP),
International Council on Radiological Units (ICRU), and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
5. Professional knowledge and experience in the calibration, optimization, use and troubleshooting of health physics
instrumentation, to include ionization chambers, proportional counters, Geiger-Muller counters, gas-flow counters, inorganic scintillators, and semiconductor detectors.
6. Ability to quickly assimilate disparate data and render knowledgeable and accurate assessments of the implication of such data; to make decisions, estimates, and recommendations under conditions of urgency and pressure based on mature judgment and experience and recognized professional standing; and to present and argue for a position effectively.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONT'D:
1. Position is designated special-sensitive and requires eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
2. Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
