Radiation Physicist ensures the quality of care in the use of radiation-producing sources and imaging equipment and the protection of patients and staff from radiation. Calibrates all radiation therapy equipment, conducts X-ray machine performance surveys, and implements procedures to ensure quality control for electronic imaging devices. Being a Radiation Physicist recommends radiation safety procedures. Informs staff in radiation safety practices. Additionally, Radiation Physicist may require an advanced degree of radiation physics. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Radiation Physicist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Pay Range: $53.00-$55.00 per hour
Accurately deliver radiation therapy treatments to patients with cancer, In addition, as a part of the medical team, participates in treatment planning and provides important psychosocial support to patients.
Education: Satisfactory completion of a course in Radiation Therapy Technology. In good standings with the ARRT and has maintained required continuing educational credits.
License/Certification: Current licensure as required by the State of New York and certification or board eligible in Radiation Therapy by the American Registry of Radiology Technology. Maintain ARRT certification/ registry in radiation therapy. BLS required through the American Heart Association.
Experience: Knowledge in principles, practices and procedures involved in the operation of ionizing radiographic and radiation therapy equipment. At least one year of clinical experience in radiation therapy preferred.. Tomotherapy experience preferred.
