Radiation Physicist ensures the quality of care in the use of radiation-producing sources and imaging equipment and the protection of patients and staff from radiation. Calibrates all radiation therapy equipment, conducts X-ray machine performance surveys, and implements procedures to ensure quality control for electronic imaging devices. Being a Radiation Physicist recommends radiation safety procedures. Informs staff in radiation safety practices. Additionally, Radiation Physicist may require an advanced degree of radiation physics. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Radiation Physicist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. In this position, you will oversee the physics activities in Radiation Oncology across our system.
Responsibilities:
· Oversee all aspects of medical physics and radiation safety within our radiation therapy program system-wide
· Perform quality assurance testing and calibration of radiation therapy equipment and patient treatment techniques
· Oversee the performance of radiation therapy treatment calculations for external beam and brachytherapy treatments to ensure accuracy, quality and timeliness
· Advise radiation oncologists and therapists on treatment planning and patient setups
· Research and propose capital budget submissions involving machine sources of radiation, patient treatment and physics equipment
· Enter dosimetry information for complex cases
· Develop job descriptions, perform interviews and recommend hiring actions
Qualifications:
· MS in Medical Physics or Radiological Physics; Ph.D. preferred
· Certified in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics
· 2 years of supervisory experience
· 5 years of clinical experience preferred
· Eligible to become an Authorized Medical Physicist for HDR required
· ABR/AMBP preferred
