Computes standard dose calculations and determines computerized generation of isodose curves for external beam hyperthermia and brachytherapy radiation treatment programs. Being a Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates treatment machine settings, documents calculations, and records treatment data in therapy chart. Interprets physician prescriptions to develop a therapeutic treatment plan. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist typically requires completion of a training program in medical dosimetry and ARRT registration in radiation therapy. Requires a bachelor's degree of physical or biological sciences. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Scheduling and simulation of patients in preparation for administering ionizing radiation treatments as prescribed by the radiation oncologist. Positioning the patient, delivering the treatment and promptly and accurately documenting the treatment and any relevant notes into the medical record.

Education/Certification: Must hold or obtain current licensure as an RTT with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent. Must hold or obtain current BLS.
Experience: Comprehension of standard radiation therapy techniques; principles of radiation physics.
Equipment/Technology: Must understand linear accelerator operations and electronic record and verify.
Language/Communication: Writing/editing English skills necessary to produce appropriate documentation and communications.
Personal Presentation: Must be able to professionally interact with customer patients, families and other staff.
Mathematical Skills: Must be able to accurately calculate chart doses, hand calculations for therapy and prescription protocols.
Mental Capabilities: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Interpersonal: Must be able to work well in small teams to accomplish departmental goals.
Performance: Must be able to take verbal instruction and practically apply it without direct supervision.
