Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients. Computes standard dose calculations and determines computerized generation of isodose curves for external beam hyperthermia and brachytherapy radiation treatment programs. Being a Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates treatment machine settings, documents calculations, and records treatment data in therapy chart. Interprets physician prescriptions to develop a therapeutic treatment plan. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist typically requires completion of a training program in medical dosimetry and ARRT registration in radiation therapy. Requires a bachelor's degree of physical or biological sciences. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Radiation Therapy Extern safely and correctly operates equipment delivering ionizing radiation for the purpose of treating neoplastic diseases or for other therapeutic purposes under the direct supervision of a Radiation Therapy Technologist.
Reports to: Lead Radiation Therapy Technologist, Radiation Therapy Technologist.
Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum Work Experience: Must be knowledgeable of the operation methods and safety standards of all equipment producing ionizing radiation within the department. Must be able to handle radiation sources. Possess experience and capabilities as seemed sufficient by the Chief Therapist and Radiation Oncologist.
Licensure/Certification: Must be certified by the American Register of Radiologic Technology (ARRT). Must be licensed by the state or eligible for licensure. BLS certification required. Must obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
