We are looking for a dynamic person to join our team of professionals as a Radiation Oncology Medical Assistant who will work in an environment that requires constant attention to detail and the ability to adapt to the ever changing flow of incoming information. The responsibilities are more administratively focused on the work in Radiation Oncology, so the right person needs to be fluent with managing both administrative and clinical duties.
Responsibilities:
- Welcome patients to the practice and escort patients to the exam room. If a patient is new to the practice, perform introductions.
- Interview patients to verify reason for visit, obtain medical information, measure patient’s vital signs, height and weight. For the same day acute visits obtain temperature and pulse oximetry.
- Document all patient information obtained in the Electronic Health Record according to policies and procedures for EHR use.
- Assist the provider with patient exams and procedures as directed.
- Become facile with the Radiation Oncology EMR - MOSAIQ- where all patient documentation for Radiation Oncology is managed.
- Answer phones. Help patients with inquiries, scheduling; redirecting calls as needed.
- Schedule appointments.
- Retrieve medical records from EPIC/Care Everywhere and outside physician offices for new patient consultations and follow ups.
- Manage medical records requested by outside facilities. Securely send radiation therapy treatment records to outside facilities using HIPAA compliance procedures.
- Ensure physician signature is on each charge report, double check all quality checklists have been attached and that physician dictation has been completed. End of the week, send charge reports to the manager.
- Order office supplies as needed.
- Daily/weekly/monthly checks of medical equipment (AED, oxygen).
- Prepare prescription refill documents for provider review and signature.
- Maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely workflow for patients and providers. Notify reception staff of any anticipated service delays.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience in a patient care environment as either an EMT or graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medications
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Willingness to obtain BLS certification within six months of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of experience in an office based physician practice
- One year of experience working with electronic health records
- Active BLS certification
