Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients. Computes standard dose calculations and determines computerized generation of isodose curves for external beam hyperthermia and brachytherapy radiation treatment programs. Being a Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates treatment machine settings, documents calculations, and records treatment data in therapy chart. Interprets physician prescriptions to develop a therapeutic treatment plan. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist typically requires completion of a training program in medical dosimetry and ARRT registration in radiation therapy. Requires a bachelor's degree of physical or biological sciences. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team who has knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology in the management of cancer or other disease processes, with special expertise in radiation therapy treatment planning. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma/ GED
Licensure/ Certification: Certified or eligible for certification by Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB).
Other Skills/ Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's in medical dosimetry.
Experience: 2 years of dosimetry experience.
Licensure/ Certification: IEMA licensure, CPR - American Heart Association (BLS for Health Care Providers)
