Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients. Computes standard dose calculations and determines computerized generation of isodose curves for external beam hyperthermia and brachytherapy radiation treatment programs. Being a Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates treatment machine settings, documents calculations, and records treatment data in therapy chart. Interprets physician prescriptions to develop a therapeutic treatment plan. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist typically requires completion of a training program in medical dosimetry and ARRT registration in radiation therapy. Requires a bachelor's degree of physical or biological sciences. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.     Job Summary and Qualifications

    SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*

    • Applies knowledge and skills in advanced treatment planning techniques.
    • Simulates or supervises simulation of patients, using simulator, computed tomography or other devices to accurately localize treatment area under the direction of the radiation oncologist.
    • Serves as Radiation Safety Technologist.
    • Provides supervision, guidance and education for simulation/dosimetry therapists and radiation therapy technology students.
    • Works with Chief Dosimetrist and Medical Physicist to troubleshoot and problem solve clinical setups or quality issues.
    • Checks charts weekly and verifies total dose(s) delivered upon completion of each course of therapy.
    • Responsible for technical component of brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery program.
    • Responsible for relaying all information pertinent for treatment delivery to radiation therapists.
    • Performs and supervises mold room duties
    • Provides appropriate teaching to patients and family.

    EXPERIENCE

    • Required - Two to five years radiation therapy experience
    • Preferred- Two years in simulation and/or dosimetry

    EDUCATION

    • Required - Graduate of an accredited school of radiologic technology and/or radiation therapy technology. Must demonstrate on-the-job or formal course training in dosimetry (twelve months)
    • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification in radiation therapy
    • Preferred - Medical Dosimetry Certification Board certification preferred
