Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II administers radiation therapy by exposing specific areas of the patient's body to prescribed doses of radiation. Maintains patient charts, noting such information as the area treated, the radiation dosage, equipment control settings, the patient's reactions, and the total amount of radiation received to date. Being a Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II consults with radiation oncologists and other clinical staff as needed. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II typically requires graduation from an accredited radiation therapy program, certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and a state license to practice. Typically reports to a physician or manager. The Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.   • Position Title: Radiation Therapy Assistant

    Purpose of Position:

    As needed, the Radiation Therapy Assistant will work under the supervision of a certified Radiation Therapist or certified Medical Physicist. Assists with general tasks in the treatment room to support quality patient care. The Radiation Therapy Assistant may also work under the direction of a medical physicist and support quality assurance activities in the department.

    All employees at the Anchorage & Valley Radiation Therapy Centers are expected to comply with the mission, values, policies, and procedures and perform their duties to the best of their ability. The essential functions listed below are not intended to be all-inclusive of a position’s responsibilities; all employees should expect to perform “other duties as assigned.”

    Essential Functions:

    · Assists in setting up radiation oncology treatment equipment.

    · Assist therapist and physicians in preparation of immobilization devices.

    · Assists in moving/positioning patients in preparation of delivery of radiation therapy, and aiding them in getting on and off treatment tables.

    · Observes patients for unusual reactions, behaviors and/or events and reports occurrences to Radiation Therapists or Physicians.

    · Escort/transports patients between clinical areas and verifies patient identities, informs patient of their destination.

    · Ensures equipment is clean and functioning properly before/after each transport.

    · Communicates delays in appointments with patients and affected departments in a timely fashion.

    · Responds to patient's questions and concerns and refers to Radiation Therapist when necessary.

    · Assists in preparing, cleaning, stocking, and maintaining treatment rooms and patient dressing areas.

    · Picks up and delivers supplies, assists with inventory.

    · Follows radiation field safety procedures and guidelines

    · Demonstrates appropriate use of PPE.

    · Identifies safety issues, intervenes, and notifies Radiation Therapist/Physicist.

    · Flexibility with regards to work schedule to meet the needs of the department.

    · Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department within scope of practice.

    *The Radiation Therapy Assistant personnel is not to operate the machine in any capacity.

    Technical Competencies:

    • Knowledge in up-to-date radiation therapy techniques and treatments.

    • Knowledge in principles, practices, and procedures involved in the operation of ionizing radiation therapy equipment.

    • Critical Thinking skills; using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

    Work Environment:

    • Exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens.

    • Occasional travel between centers and within city is required.

    • Frequent contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.

    • May be exposed to radiation.

    • May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Work requires the ability to lift or push up to fifty (50) pounds.

    • Work requires long periods of standing, and is subject to many interruptions.

    • Work requires the employee to push, pull or lift objects and/or patients aided or unaided.

    Requirements: Medical Assistant or X-ray Technician certification preferred.

    Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
