Radiology Director directs and coordinates activities of a radiology or diagnostic imaging department in a hospital or other medical facility. Reviews work schedules and assigns duties to workers to maintain patient flow and achieve production goals. Being a Radiology Director oversees staff in operation of imaging equipment, such as x-ray machine, fluoroscope, CT scanner, or MRI equipment. Evaluates accuracy and quality of images and provides technical assistance to staff. Additionally, Radiology Director demonstrates new techniques, equipment, and procedures to staff. Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with regulatory requirements. Develops and implements plans, policies, and procedures regarding operations and staffing and, the purchasing of radiology supplies. May require an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Radiology Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Radiology Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. The Radiologic Technologist provides skill and initiative to the department mission through interactions with staff, Chief Technologist, and others as necessary. Primary duties are to work as a technologist on either East Newton or Harrison Avenue campus while also implementing policy and procedures as determined necessary through Radiology Supervisor, Operations Manager, and Radiology Administration Director.

    Requirements

    Completion of two years of post-high school training in an approved school of Radiologic Technology. Requires knowledge of principles and procedures of diagnostic radiology practices and the operation and maintenance of Radiologic equipment. RTR and ARRT are required. 1-4 years experience preferred. Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients and all/any apprehensions, to instruct students, and to provide technical supervision to staff technologists. State license required and all applicable radiology education requirements.
