  • Job description General Manager of Operations - Railroad Industry Our ideal candidate will have experience in the transportation, construction or other unionized heavy equipment industries.

    Job Summary: Hulcher Services, Inc. is looking for an experienced management professional to serve as General Manager of Operations. In your role as General Manager of Operations, you will have operational and P&L responsibility for an assigned territory consisting of multiple locations across several states. You will provide senior-level leadership and direction, coordinating with department managers to ensure efficient asset utilization and cost control.

    Position Responsibilities:
    • Ensuring high-quality customer service and addressing and maintaining frequent contact with customers to promote sales, solve problems and determine satisfaction
    • Carrying out all supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
    • Determining and reviewing staff requirements and participating in recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training employees – includes overseeing allocation and scheduling of personnel
    • Providing staff performance appraisals and resolving employee problems
    • Coordinating with Safety, Personnel Services and other departments to ensure implementation and compliance with company safety and operating rules, recommending changes and improvements when necessary
    • Participating in short- and long-term market strategy development
    • Analyzing sales statistics to formulate strategy and to assist in promoting sales • Providing checks and balances to bid processing to ensure profitability and quality control
    • Assisting in the development and use of budget/fiscal and inventory control programs to maximize cost control and attainment of goals
    • Ensuring that all administrative requirements are completed in a timely manner

    Requirements/Qualifications: As General Manager of Operations, you must have exceptional leadership abilities and business acumen, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse range of personnel. You must also have keen attention to detail as well as strong analytic, problem-solving and business-strategy skills.
    • Bachelors degree • Minimum 10 years of experience with progressive P&L responsibility in a cost conscious environment
    • Ability to identify, measure and manage key indicators of business plan success
    • Strong PC skills, including MS Word and Excel • Willingness to travel with little or no notice
    • Flexibility to work some weekends and to put in long hours
    • Experience in the transportation, construction or other unionized heavy equipment industries preferred
