    In this role, you:

    • Maintain accurate and organized nursing files, records and nursing policy books.
    • Maintain all regulatory required logs and records.
    • Book M.D. appointments, x-rays, transportation, etc., when directed by Charge Nurse.
    • Coordinate and manage accurate and complete active and discharge medical records on file.
    • Complete discharge medical records timely and accurately, as well as ensuring the physician has signed in all appropriate sections.
    • Knowledgeable in facility Privacy Practices and complies by protecting all residents’ health information, processes the medical records requests in a timely fashion and in accordance with State, Federal and HIPAA guidelines.
    • Ensure all requests for medical records are reviewed by the Director of Nurses and/or Administrator.
    • If the record request is related to a Medicare/Medicaid appeal or billing issue the request should be reviewed by the Director of Finance. If the record request is from an attorney, legal representative (POA) or for an insurance audit, the request should be sent to Meg Sweeney for a review by a Clinical Specialist prior to release.

    Experience & Education:

    • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
    • Minimum one (1) year experience in clerical.
    • On-the-job training provided in medical work with knowledge of medical terminology and record procedure.

    Specific Requirements:

    • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
    • Must possess accurate and comprehensive assessment skills.
    • Must have knowledge of restorative nursing and rehabilitation policies and utilizes appropriately.
    • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
    • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
    • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care.
    • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
    • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
    • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
    • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively with appropriate personnel regarding emergency situations.
