This position requires a wide range of knowledge to include an understanding of public records laws, an extensive knowledge of NIBRS and CJIS, the ability to supervise and train. This position requires strong writing and decision making skills. The ideal candidate must possess the ability to act effectively and calmly in emergency situations and work effectively with the public, other agencies and other employees.
    A qualified applicant is one who:

    • Is a high school graduate or has a GED equivalent.
    • Five (5) years of progressively responsible police records experience including training of staff.

    Additional eligibility requirements:

    • Successful completion of pre-employment requirements including:
    • Comprehensive background investigation
    • Psychological examination
    • Clear drug screen (which includes testing for cannabis)
    • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply departmental policy and applicable state or municipal law.
    • Strong customer service skills.
    • Use of computer and other office equipment effectively and efficiently.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to receive CJIS clearance and LEDs certification within 30 days of employment.

    Work schedule:

    • The work schedule is Monday - Thursday 10 hours/day.
    • There will be times the schedule will be flexible to training or assist other shifts as needed.
    • The Records Division operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The Police Records Supervisor must be willing to assist anytime time of the day or night, whether on shift or off duty.

    Other information about the position:

    • Uniforms are provided.
    • Personal appearance standards must be in compliance with MPD policy 1043 including but not limited to:
    • No visible tattoos.
    • Hair color must be consistent with a naturally occurring color range.
    • Body piercing or alteration to any area of the body cannot be visible when in uniform, including but not limited to:
    • Tongue splitting or piercing.
    • Jewelry worn associated with body piercing, including nose piercing. A clear nose ring place holder may be worn.
    • Contact lenses of an unnatural color or graphic design.
    • Personal conduct and behavior (on-duty and off-duty) must be such that it builds confidence in the department.

    The anticipated hiring range for this position is $36.23 (first step) to $38.04 or $39.95 (second or third step). Directly related experience and qualifications will be evaluated alongside others who perform work of comparable character as required by Pay Equity Law. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.
