Recreation Leader (Summer Season, 30 hours/week)
**Interviewing during Derby Public Schools Spring Break Week**
Who We Are Looking For:
The Recreation Leader is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive summer camp (normally 7:30 am - 5:30 pm) recreation program daily from Monday - Friday. This camp is for kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade. (Normally 7:00 am–6:00 pm) daily Monday - Friday. Camp runs late May - early August. Must attend required evening and weekend trainings prior to the start of camp.
What Winning As A Recreation Leader Looks Like:
- Supervise a recreational program to include sports, table games, arts and crafts, dramatics, and special activities.
- Keep accurate daily attendance records and report it on the proper form to the DRC office.
- Monitor whereabouts of assigned children and ensure safety of children at all times.
- Deal with behavior issues in an appropriate manner.
- Work with parents of children in program to ensure good communication and that the outreach program is flexible in meeting the needs of the family.
- Supervise field trips.
- Wear appropriate staff attire at all times.
- Be responsible for all supplies and equipment utilized during program.
- Attend all program training.
- Carry out all other duties assigned by the Program Coordinator relating to the program.
Essential Job Requirements:
EDUCATION:
- A high school diploma is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working with children or providing recreational programs is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Functions may be performed in an environment that may cause exposure to sun.
- Need to have the ability to see and hear, sit, stoop, bend and move about.
- Must posses an audible voice for communication and ability to lift light equipment.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Needs to possess a basic knowledge of fundamental recreational activities.
- Mature individual with strong work habits.
- The ideal person will be able to build healthy teaching relationships and implement programs that nurture character and strong athletic and social skills.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Part time DRC positions may be, or may become, covered by the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) based on anticipated scheduling. Covered employees have all rights and responsibilities of KPERS employees including payroll deductions for retirement benefits. Employees in good standing with 2 years of service and KPERS eligibility are eligible for Vacation, Sick Leave and Holiday pay at specified part time rates.
