Recreational Therapist jobs in Bangor, ME

Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Journey’s End Marina has been in Rockland, Maine for over 30 years. The parent company, O’Hara Corporation, has been in the maritime industry for over 100 years, operating fishing boats around the country. Starting in Boston as “Francis J. O’Hara and Son’s”.

    In the 1990’s, the fishing industry declined on the East coast and the fishing boats moved west which left acres of waterfront property vacant. Fearing the loss of Rockland’s historic working waterfront O’Hara Corporation purchased the unused processing plants. This marked the beginning of a vision that has become Journey’s End Marina. A first-class marina, for all boating needs. Our clients travel from all over the world to store their boats and yachts with us!

     As a Recreational boat mechanic, you will be responsible for completing a variety of tasks relating to customer boats. This includes, all aspects of the boat from engines to electrical systems. This is a great opportunity if you love physical work outdoors and thrive at interacting closely with small teams. On the job training will be available for the right candidate.

     This is a full time, hourly, non-exempt position.

     Education and Experience

    • Highschool or GED diploma preferred but not required.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills
    • Computer skills required
    • Willingness to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
    • Knowledge of marine mechanical & electrical systems
    • ABYC accreditation preferred.
    • Passionate about having outstanding customer interactions.
    • Must be authorized to work in the US.

    Job Summary

    • Repairing customer boats

    • Knowledge and adherence to all safety rules and regulations.
    • Work well as part of a close-knit team.

    Essential Functions

    • Understand and follow instructions, directions, and safety rules in English.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, talk and hear; handle, or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
    • Ability to lift/carry at least 50 pounds.
