Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Responsibilities:
- Instruct and lead gymnastics classes for students of all ages and skill levels
- Develop lesson plans and create engaging activities to enhance student learning
- Teach proper techniques, form, and safety measures to ensure student progress and to prevent injuries
- Provide individualized feedback and guidance to students to help them improve their skills
- Ensure a safe and clean environment by enforcing gym rules and regulations
- Maintain open communication with parents and/or guardians
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with students in a coaching or teaching capacity
- Some Knowledge of gymnastics techniques, rules, and safety protocols
- Ability to effectively educate and motivate students of all ages
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude towards coaching
- Ability to manage behavior effectively and implement behavior management strategies when necessary
