Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Recreational Therapist (Musice, Movement, or Art) is responsible for planning and implementing activity services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing vocational/living skills assessments and treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care observation interaction and role modeling to patients. May assist with development of programs and treatment work as clinically indicated.


    Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
    Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in activity therapy, music therapy, movement therapy, or art therapy or related field preferred. High School Degree required. Certification or License in Recreational/Art/Music Therapy preferred. Three years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.
