Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. We are seeking a Recreation Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary health care team, providing care while promoting a safe, compassionate patient care environment. The Recreational Therapist will develop individualized plans of care to enhance patient quality of life.
What will you do in this role?
Provides recreational/art/music/dance/movement therapy and psychoeducational services consistent with treatment plan goals
Supports safe and healthy leisure and recreation, and special events
Builds programming to meet the psychological, emotional, communicative, and social needs of our diverse patient population
Makes ongoing evaluations of the patient’s condition and progress and the effectiveness of the treatment program
What qualifications will you need?
Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Activities Therapy is required
Master’s Degree is preferred
Current certification in one of the follow is required:
CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist)
MT-BC (Music Therapist – Board Certified)
ATR-BC (Art Therapist – Board Certified)
BC-DMT (Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist)
BLS (Basic Life Support) and CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) are required
Previous experience is preferred
