Recreational Therapist jobs in Pensacola, FL

Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     • Collects fees, checks passes, and punches cards at Pier, Pool, and Senior Center.
     
    • Counts monies and makes daily deposit drops; completes receipt book.
     
    • Monitors activities all assigned location.
     
    • Assists customers with questions and program information.
     
    • Answers telephone, provides information, and takes messages.
     
    • Maintains a clean and tidy work area.
     
    • Prepares and sells concessions.
     
    • Supervises youth and adult sports league games and tournaments.
     
    • Assists in maintaining sports equipment inventory.
     
    • Assists in the selection of teams.
     
    • Supervises special events.
     
    • Collects trash and cleans restrooms.
     
    • Assists in maintaining sports fields.
     
    • Turns lights on and off at sports facilities.
     
    • Prepares buildings for rental events.
     
    • Assists with summer camps, programs, activities, etc.
     
    • Performs related duties.

    • Work in concessions.

    • General Expectations (not a comprehensive list)
           1st year team member – master safety protocols and the responsibilities related to the job description.
           2nd year team member – effectively provide mentoring to new team members as assigned, assist in training exercises.
           3rd year team member – independently conduct in-service training as assigned.
           4th year team member – able to mentor, train, and provide leadership to peers, support leadership in staff development typical of a team                                                  member in a lead role.
           5th year team member – considered a senior team member, an expert in job responsibilities and training abilities.
           Beyond the 5th year team member – the highest standard of skills, character, and leadership qualities are expected.
    • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
     
    • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

    SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
     
    The Parks and Recreation Resources Supervisor assigns work in terms of detailed and specific instructions. The supervisor spot-checks work in progress and upon completion for accuracy, adequacy, and adherences to instructions and established guidelines.
     
    GUIDELINES
     
    Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

    • The work consists of related clerical and customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
