Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. In this dynamic role, you'll lead therapeutic sessions, maintain equipment and facilities, and bring your expertise in Relational, Experiential, and Systemic modalities to life.     WORK SCHEDULE

     

    A Recreational Therapist is a full time, hourly position, working up to 32 hours in a week.

    Responsibilities

    Therapeutic Sessions: Conduct 4 weekly Recreational Therapy (RT) sessions, adapting as needed to address the students' therapeutic goals. Organize and lead an additional general group session when required.

    Adventure Days: Plan, implement, and manage 1-2 extended Saturday sessions per month, providing additional therapeutic opportunities for students.

     

    Family Weekend Support: Offer assistance and support during family weekend activities at both New Haven campuses, facilitating positive family engagement.

    Equipment and Facility Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and regular inspection of the High Ropes Course and other recreational therapy equipment to ensure safety and functionality.

    Therapeutic Modalities: Demonstrate a profound understanding of Relational, Experiential, and Systemic therapeutic modalities and their applications.

    Therapeutic Expertise: Possess advanced skills in discernment, therapeutic theory, intervention techniques, and teaching methods.

    Boundary Management: Maintain the capability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with students and their parents, fostering a safe and therapeutic environment.

    Behavior Assessment: Demonstrate the ability to assess and interpret student behavior, enabling informed decision-making based on input from multiple sources.

    Collaborative Treatment Model: Actively participate in New Haven's Team Delivery Model, collaborating with representatives from Clinical, Residential, Recreational Therapy, Nursing, and Academics as part of the Treatment Team.

    Treatment Plan Contribution: Complete the RT section of each student's master treatment plan, ensuring alignment with their therapeutic needs and objectives.

    Ceremonial Leadership: Plan, organize, and lead company ceremonies, contributing to the therapeutic and experiential aspects of our program.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor Degree in Recreational Management.
    • National RT Certification and Utah State TRS are required
    • Two years working as a licensed RT is preferred but not required.
    • One year working in a residential setting.
    • Certified in High Rope Course
    • Ability to pass a Utah State background check
    • Able to work with a combined team of clinical and residential staff.
    • Good verbal and written communication
    • Experience in treating youth.
    • Ability to create positive relationship.
    • Professional documentation and charting skills.
