Recreational Therapist jobs in Reno, NV

Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Requirements: Recreational Therapist

    • Twelve (12) continuous months of experience within the last three (3) years rendering direct patient care in public or private institution. Clinical competencies must be current
    • Valid Photo ID Driver’s License or Passport (Required)
    • Possess current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association
    • NATIONAL or CA Recreational Therapist Certificate

    Duties/Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to: Recreational Therapist

    • Communicate changes in patient’s condition to Director of Recreational Therapy and interdisciplinary treatment team.
    • Provide pertinent feedback to the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding patient response to therapy, treatment interventions, and therapeutic objectives, as appropriate and necessary.
    • Provides assessment in psychosocial/leisure and recreation skills development/deficiency.
    • Ensure timely documentation of interventions and ensure interventions are based on the patient’s plan of care.
    • Teach coping skills and stress management techniques to patients and display a balance leisure lifestyle.
    • Utilize advanced knowledge of counseling and therapeutic concepts and methods for determining therapeutic services for psychiatric, traumatic, and chemically dependent patients.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of group dynamics as well as therapy and practice of group processing.
