Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     About the Position:
    • Here at the Oklahoma Forensic Center the Recreation department is hiring for a Recreational Activities Specialist that would be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and conducting individual and group leisure-time and physical education activities  for consumers of behavioral health treatment in an inpatient setting.

    Job Type/Salary:
    • Open/Close dates:  4/6/2024-until filled
    • Full-time
    • Hourly payrate is $15.38
    • Primary Working Hours are 8:00am-4:30pm
    • FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
    • Primary Work Location/Department: Oklahoma Forensic Center/Recreation
    • Vacancies:  1

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
    • One year of experience in instructing/directing a community service or recreational program; or in a closely related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Special Requirements:
    • Applicant must be able to pass an OSBI background check.
    • Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill any job-related travel normally associated with this position and as such have a valid driver’s license.

    About us:
    The Oklahoma Forensic Center encompasses a 24 hour/365 day secure inpatient forensic facility, forensic step-down unit (TRC) and jail competency services for the State of Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Forensic Center (OFC) located in Vinita employs around 260 individuals and has approximately 216 consumers whom have been found incompetent for adjudication or adjudicated as Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity. Transitions Recovery Center (TRC) also in Vinita, is a secure 52-bed forensic step-down unit.   

    Drug and Alcohol Pre-employment and Pre-placement Testing: 
    Upon a conditional offer of employment, applicants for safety sensitive positions shall be required to submit to urinalysis to test for drugs. Appointment to a safety sensitive position shall be contingent upon a negative drug test result.
