Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Under the direction and supervision of the Recreation Supervisor or designee, the Recreation Aide will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of activities for participants tailored to the needs and limitations of frail elderly. Assist participants with non-skilled Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Provide one-on-one assistance, facilitate small group and large groups of participants’ activity programming and/or preparing for upcoming activities in both LIFE center and in the community (participants homes, outing, etc.). Assist with planning social, therapeutic and leisure programs. Assists in monitoring and reporting the health status and providing a safe environment for the participants of Inspira LIFE.
As a multisite provider of PACE community-based services for seniors in Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties, an Inspira LIFE employee may work at either or both the Vineland or Williamstown LIFE Program as census changes or operational needs occur to meet the needs of our participants.
