Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. General Summary:
Recreation Coordinator’s responsibilities include planning, creating and implement a recreational program to meet the physical, social, emotional, spiritual and cognitive needs of the male and female clients in residential treatment for substance use disorders. Creative, enthusiastic, energetic and caring individual with activity experience, time management and organizational skills.
Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The Recreation Coordinator develops and promotes recreational programs including, but not limited to, music, dance, arts and crafts, cultural presentations, nature study, social recreation, games and trips.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in recreation administration, physical education, social work, psychology or closely related field, and six (6) months experience in recreation, or actively pursuing CADC certification or any equivalent combination of education or experience. Must have car and a NJ driver's license with good driving history. Innovative, detail-oriented and flexible with ability to work independently. Must be computer literate and possess ability to type.
