Recreational Therapy Director directs the programs and staff of the recreational therapy department including policies and procedures. BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for ensuring that all recreational activities are accomplished in a safe and orderly manner for the Parks & Recreation Department. Assists in set-up, take-down and facility cleaning for special events. Assists in the development and implementation of recreational programming. Works weekends and evenings.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. Issue facility drop-in passes and monitor/enforce proper safety rules in the facility.
2. Provide routine clean up and general maintenance of locker rooms and ice arena seating.
3. Clean, sharpen, and maintain ice skates and equipment.
4. Render emergency first aid to injured or stricken facility users.
5. Inspect facilities to detect and report damage.
6. Inform participants of facility rules and ensure that scheduled activities are enforced. Respond to patrons' questions/needs and refer to manager when appropriate.
7. Responsible for checking patrons in and out of locker rooms on sign-up sheet.
8. Assist in the setup and take-down of facilities for special events.
9. Open facilities for daily activities; secure and close facilities.
10. Assist with developing, marketing and leading programs at park facilities.
11. Perform custodial duties as assigned.
12. Operate a point of sale system, process cash, check, and credit card sales and take facility reservations using recreation scheduling software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be at least 18 years old.
2. Six months of work experience dealing with the public, operating a personal computer and/or cash register, and handling cash preferred.
3. PREFERRED: Ability to have and maintain a valid driver’s license and to meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough’s insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of basic math computations.
2. Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant, tactful, and courteous manner.
3. Must be able to achieve Standard First Aid, Adult CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent) within three (3) months of hire.
OTHER
1. This position requires a criminal background check.
2. A PROFICIENCY TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED.

A recreational facility where conditions are pleasant; good, clean conditions where accidents/hazards are negligible; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing or pulling (26-50 lbs.).
This position falls under the Borough’s Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
