Legal Recruiting Director – Human Resources
The Office of the Tennessee Attorney General (Office) and Reporter represents all State executives, officials, departments, boards, agencies, and commissions in matters arising from their public duties. Such representation includes participation in litigation, transactional matters, and giving day-to-day legal advice. The Office employs approximately 200 attorneys organized into 16 regular divisions within 5 sections.
Job Overview:
The Office is seeking a Legal Recruiting Director (LRD) to manage the legal recruitment efforts. The recruitment and retention of qualified personnel are top priorities. This position will be a part of the Human Resources team and report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
The LRD serves as the senior recruiter for the Office. As such, the LRD will work with the Office’s leadership and communications teams to keep abreast of changing legal needs, bolster legal recruitment activity, and raise the profile of employment opportunities.
This position will require a professional legal recruiter who is passionate about serving the State of Tennessee. The applicant must be adept in promoting opportunities for employment among seasoned attorneys and who has a demonstrated track record of identifying legal talent with appropriate professional knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet the Office’s needs.
The successful candidate for the LRD position will build relationships with other experienced legal recruiting professionals and will continue to widen this network to enhance the Office’s promotion of employment opportunities, especially for lateral recruitment within legal communities. This will require the LRD’s presence and engagement in activities that may result in recruitment of attorneys, to include presenting on topics related to legal recruiting, career development, and market trends.
Responsibilities include:
· Create and implement an effective recruiting strategy built to meet the needs of the Office.
· Facilitate hiring decisions and conduct candidate due diligence.
· Create and manage dynamic candidate interview schedule utilizing attorneys from appropriate practice area/law school to give a full picture of the breadth of practice.
· Lead candidates through the recruitment process and communicate regularly with both candidates and leaders.
· Manage the summer law clerk program, including all hiring, to create a post-graduate recruiting pipeline and a robust learning opportunity.
· Identify and implement training opportunities/programs for attorneys and staff.
· Cultivate and maintain relationships with law school career services offices and recruiting agencies to stay apprised of both local and national market trends to stay competitive in the hiring market.
· Partner with the Communications team to create content and job postings on social media, the Office website and other appropriate hiring or partner websites.
· Coordinate recruitment and onboarding efforts with HR and Communications teams.
· Develop recordkeeping and recruiting documentation for benchmarking and planning.
The ideal candidate may have the following qualifications:
· A minimum of three years of experience in the legal recruiting industry.
· Strong understanding of the Nashville legal market preferred.
· Experience working with law school career development offices.
· The ability to work as part of a team and to communicate effectively.
