Referral Specialist processes insurance pre-verification for hospital admissions or specialty service office visits. Gathers pertinent information from patients, insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other staff to confirm the patient's financial obligations for services. Being a Referral Specialist acts as a liaison between hospitals, clinical staff, health plans, providers, and patients to process referrals. Verifies insurance coverage and obtains required authorizations when necessary. Additionally, Referral Specialist documents referrals, communications, actions, and other data in an information management system. Generates and distributes all applicable forms, notifications, and paperwork. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Referral Specialist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. SALARY : $ 10.00 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS : High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Ability to communicate effectively (oral, written and Spanish speaking ability).
Preferred knowledge of computer programs software and database (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet). Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work with public. Ability to work with confidential client information. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License, comply with State of Texas driving laws, and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Criminal background check is required for employment or continued employment.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES : Under the supervision of the CA / Clinic Supervisor, WCS / Clinic Supervisor or designee. Performs various tasks as needed and directed by the Clinic Supervisor or designee.
Tasks include, to encourage and explain benefits of participation in the Summer Food Program while promoting WIC outreach within the community, maintain a clean / healthy environment / eating area, perform reception, clerical, and clinical duties.
Actively handing out referrals and printed resources to other health and community services along with summer meals. Must travel and work in other clinic sites as deemed necessary.
Clinic / Clerical duties such as gathering client paperwork, performing heights / weights, or handing out WIC EBT cards with benefits.
Must maintain current Department of State Health Services Immunization Guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned. This is not a Civil Service covered position.
Position will be available on May 17, 2019, and ends on August 8, 2019.
