Being a Referral Specialist acts as a liaison between hospitals, clinical staff, health plans, providers, and patients to process referrals. Verifies insurance coverage and obtains required authorizations when necessary. Additionally, Referral Specialist documents referrals, communications, actions, and other data in an information management system. Generates and distributes all applicable forms, notifications, and paperwork. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Referral Specialist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     POSITION SUMMARY 

    The Referral Coordinator performs a wide range of administrative duties to include referral processing, clinical  reviews, insurance verification, background checks, communication of acceptance to the patient transitions  liaison, and other tasks assigned.  

     

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 

    To provide support to the Facility and Monarch Referral Management Team 

    • Ensures referrals are clinically and financially reviewed in a timely manner 
    • Reviews and assembles and overview of the referral’s clinical needs and background. Including reviewing  medication cost, and cost of specialty needs and equipment, 
    • Reviews and assembles a complete and accurate review of insurance coverage. Provides a description of primary and secondary insurance coverage 
    • Completes Background checks on all referrals 
    • Enters referrals into Enquire daily, in a timely manner 
    • Assists MRM Team in problem solving potential issues related to clinically complex, financially complex,  or psychosocially complex referrals. 

    Maintains Healthy Relationships and Uses Professional Conduct with Residents, Families, Visitors

    • Is courteous and cooperative with residents, families, visitors, supervisors, and co-workers.
    • Follows dress code, wears name tag, and limits personal phone calls.  
    • Is courteous and cooperative with residents, families, visitors, supervisors, and co-workers.
    • Always maintains resident and personnel confidentiality. Understands the need for complete privacy of  all health care data.  
    • Abides by and promotes the Continuous Quality Improvement Program of Monarch Healthcare  Management. 

    FACILITY COMPLIANCE 

    • Maintains departmental records of each resident with original referral, admission papers, current  insurance, and financial information.  
    • Attends meetings as directed to include departmental meetings, business development meetings, etc. 
    • Participates in inspections and audits of department as needed to maintain safety and sanitary  conditions.  
    • Identifies areas of problem/needs through surveys and communicates these at QA&A committee  meetings.  
    • Attends continuing education/in-services pertinent to your department.  
    • Maintains and applies knowledge of current policies and procedures. Assists in policy and procedure  development as needed
    • Promotes a highly positive workplace centered on strong customer service, inclusivity and ensuring staff  feel welcome and supported 

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    Education and Experience 

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred or two years related experience in healthcare and/or equivalent  education in a degree such as Admissions, Social Services, Nursing, or Healthcare Administration.
    • Proficient computer skills and excellent time management is required 

     

    Preferred 

    • Experience with health insurance, Medicare, Medical Assistance, and other health care plans is  preferred 
    • Experience in healthcare, skilled nursing facility or assisted living community
