    Position Description – Purpose:
    The Refinery Scheduling Supervisor ensures that a comprehensive and consistent refinery-wide schedule is developed and executed in alignment with the refinery plan.  They ensure, through a team of refinery schedulers, that all aspects of the schedule are coordinated effectively with Production Unit teams, Supply, and Planning.

    Position Accountabilities:
    • Holds responsibility for all day-to-day scheduling activity, which includes production scheduling, product movements, aspects of quality assurance, and oversight and coordination during planned events and abnormal situations 
    • Ensures that the short- and medium-term refinery schedule is optimized and aligned with the monthly/weekly refinery plan while minimizing demurrage and maintaining inventories and product losses within agreed targets
    • Champions Scheduling processes & tools ensuring that proper site resources are dedicated to managing, upgrading, and embedding scheduling tools in the refinery
    • Manages costs associated with third party inspections, demurrage, product additives, and logistics such as terminaling and transportation (pipeline and waterborne). 
    • Ensures hydrocarbon management systems are in place to reliably blend and schedule products that meet regulatory, transportation and customer standards
    • Supports Finance team with financial closing and actively participates with the site Mass Loss team to improve the mass balance
    • Develops overview and tracks economic impacts associated with logistical impacts (e.g., tank outages, dock constraints, etc.) 
    • Manages and delivers integrated supply chain win-win relationships and outcomes with Commercial Supply team
    • Coordinates cross-functional teams to maximize profitability and efficiency. 
    • Motivates, coaches, and develops the scheduling team and contributes to building a robust skill pool and talent pipeline
    • Supports schedulers in balancing demanding work schedules by ensuring proper tools, aiding in clear communications to reduce re-work, and partnering with Production to increase 24-hour-staff ownership.​​​​​​
    Dimensions:
    Direct Reports: 6-7 Schedulers
    Accountable for scheduling ~650 MBPD of crude oil, feedstocks, and products
    Implementation of the optimized plan, strongly influencing the delivery of the annual gross margin optimization of approximately $1.5B
    Direct budgetary accountability of ~$1.5MM
    Supports the E&S Manager in managing the Refinery Fees & Expenses budget.

    Loss Control Value Delivery Team
    Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

    Job Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree 
    • 10 years in chemical or refinery plant with advanced knowledge of hydrocarbon management 
    • Extensive experience with refinery configurations, processes, and refinery economics 
    • Demonstrated commercial acumen and interest (Supply, Trading, Commercial Products)

Must also be an effective communicator, build strong relationships with the key process performers (Production and Technology), and be able to influence outside the Scheduling Team without formal authority. Must also be able to help evaluate optimization opportunities and effectively communicate/engage along the entire value chain (Trading and Supply, Chemicals). The job requires energy, creativity, flexibility, and adaptability to changing priorities and operational conditions. The Scheduling Manager must have the ability to focus on the right priorities, e.g., in balancing margin versus costs, even during operational upsets.
