Regional Claims Manager manages the operations of an insurance claims department to meet operational, financial, and service requirements. Oversees the intake and processing of insurance claims for personal, property, or casualty loss based on coverage, appraisal, and verifiable damage. Being a Regional Claims Manager manages appraisal and examination staff and processes. Assures timely and proper disposition of claims based on policy provisions. Additionally, Regional Claims Manager recommends and implements best practices to ensure complete and thorough claim settlements, legal reviews, and investigations following company policies and insurance industry regulations. Determines the value of settlements for escalated claims. Manages negotiations of settlements and administration of claims in litigation. Typically requires a bachelor's degree.     This role is located in Douglaston,Queens.

    Claims Manager will oversee all insurance losses that potentially affect The Companies’ assets & assist with mitigating those exposures that can produce financial loss and minimize the effect on The Companies’ profits working directly with the VP of Risk Management in the undermentioned responsibilities.

    Essential duties and responsibilities:

    • Manage The Companies’ insurable losses including timely reporting of all occurrences that can lead to claim(s), possess ability to interpret complex coverage issues, assess risk transfer potential & develop info required to successfully address tender issues, maintain electronic loss files, monitoring all losses including reserves through a rigorous diary system, and reporting developments on losses to intercompany stakeholders;
    • Oversee all on site claims investigations by traveling to various constructions sites and properties, including, meeting with staff, remediation contractors, insurance adjusters, and reporting findings to intercompany stakeholders;
    • Manage various direct relationships with our claims handling service (TPA), carriers, defense counsels, brokers so as to be fluent with their systems, be able to request loss runs & report losses, and be able to hold periodic claim reviews & audits needed to effectuate file closings;
    • Prepare, create and run monthly and quarterly loss reports for all coverage lines from multiple sources for various intercompany stakeholders;
    • Review and audit outstanding claims, expedite claims processing when applicable (including review of loss runs), and track & control legal expenses to assure cost-effective resolution;
    • Coordinate with Human Resources & carriers on employee related claims, including return to work and where occasionally appropriate attend off-site trainings, company depositions, mediations, trials, as needed;
    • Maintain various Subcontractor/Consultants/Vendor insurance tracking logs for all projects & properties;
    • Proactively help mitigate future claims by assisting VP of Risk Management in vetting various trade, vendor, consultant insurance policies to ensure that any future claims can be properly tendered back to responsible downstream parties;
    • Assist VP of Risk Management in preparing all underwriting insurance renewal submissions & appropriately deal with any info considered personal and confidential;
    • Monitor & improve Risk Management department intranet site and assist in supervising Insurance & claim administrators, interns, etc; and
    • Perform other tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications


    Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience required, preferably in a construction and property management fields;
    • Superior time management & organizational skills required with proven track record of prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously under tight deadlines;
    • Excellent written & verbal communication skills and detail oriented with strong attention to following set procedures & protocols but remaining flexible to changes, if need be;
    • Superior customer service skills and active listening skills;
    • Self-starter and team player who can work independently & as part of a larger team; and
    • Ability to travel to various project sites and buildings within the 5 boroughs as needed.
