Job Summary
The Regional Vice President of Marketing and Communications is a critical senior leadership role for Skagit Regional Health and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Regional Vice President is responsible for developing and executing an organizational marketing and communications strategy that strengthens and elevates the Skagit Regional Health reputation among external audiences and enhances internal employee engagement. The Regional VP of Marketing and Communications will oversee the full spectrum of internal and external communication functions and will develop a team and outside agencies/vendor partners to drive performance, visibility and innovation. This senior executive will have a significant impact on the largest healthcare provider in the service area (including Skagit, Island, and north Snohomish counties). This position will be a driving force as Skagit Regional Health continues to grow and expand the services provided to the region. The Vice President of Marketing and Communications will lead communications, serve as a collaborator, and confident advisor who works well with members of senior leadership, board members, employees, providers and patients. Works with the marketing staff to elevate existing communication strategies and develop future-focused strategies to drive market share and promote clinical services, while ensuring alignment with the Skagit Regional Health brand and organizational goals. Essential Functions
1. Serve as a critical strategic member of the executive leadership team with the direct responsibility of building communication strategy, new systems and driving fully integrated marketing and communication strategies with the primary objective of elevating Skagit Regional Health’s current market position and brand. 2. Lead the effort to conceptualize, plan and implement messages based upon collective programmatic and institutional goals and objectives of Skagit Regional Health. 3. Lead cross-functional, diverse teams of professional staff and outside agencies/vendor partners to develop institutional awareness concerning name, brand, messaging, and collaterals; devise and implement campaign communications and marketing plan to support Skagit Regional Health's strategic priorities. 4. Lead multi-layer teams, coach and develop staff in marketing and communications, content team, web, contract staff and grow partnerships with large-scale outside agencies and vendor partners. 5. Devise, measure, and evaluate communication strategies that articulate institutional priorities for a large and complex healthcare system that are inspiring and compelling. 6. Oversee and make decisions in conjunction with the senior leadership team regarding planning, revenue, resources allocation and budget administration for marketing and communication. 7. Manage and implement external communication activities, specifically in the areas of media relations, public relations, community relations and crisis management. 8. Coordinate and collaborate with key departments to ensure alignment and consistency of messages within and between facilities. 9. Collaborate with outside partner agencies/contractors on internal and external messaging. 10. Participate in the board Community Health and Strategic Planning committees and other system committees as assigned by the CEO. 11. Assure organizational alignment with Board-adopted vision, mission and values as well as specific organization strategies. 12. Comply with all SRH policies and procedures. 13. Perform other duties and implement special projects as assigned by CEO. COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS 1. Monitor external issues related to corporate reputation and develop communication strategies to address them; lead team in generating press releases and provides consultation, content, editing and approval; lead crisis management plans and help develop statements and talking points. 2. Guide media relations strategy to create trusting relationships with the press and community. 3. Work with executive leadership and communication team to manage and implement approved crisis communications plan, including spokesperson identification, media talking points, media coordination, and internal and external messaging. 4. Oversee and leverage the SRH Intranet to maximize the strategic and operational benefit of the communications hub. 5. Develop and implement employee communications strategies to provide timely internal communications to align employees; edits content of communications. 6. Oversee the Public Information Officer team. MARKETING AND BRANDING 1. Oversee development of annual marketing plan and assures plan is cost effective and within adopted budget. 2. Build and leverage understanding of inpatient and clinical service line growth objectives to support annual marketing and community engagement planning. 3. Collaborate with CEO and executive leadership team to understand strategic business needs and implement marketing strategies in support of identified needs. 4. Work with stakeholders to monitor, analyze and report on Skagit Regional Health market share statistics. Develop recommendations for strategies to increase SRH market share. 5. Oversee the consistency and strength of Skagit Regional Health’s key messages, appropriate use of graphic standards and Skagit Regional Health branding across all marketing avenues and mediums. 6. Oversee reputation management program. 7. Oversee creation, development, production and distribution of marketing materials including magazines, website, brochures, newsletters, video productions, direct mail, podcasts, social media and other promotional pieces. 8. Direct development and implementation of consumer research, evaluate data and develop strategies to strengthen Skagit Regional Health’s direction. 9. Develop community engagement strategies for Skagit Regional Health to include key organizational relationships and maximize support for Skagit Regional Health initiatives and goals. 10. Create trusting relationships with clinic leadership, physician partners and assures inclusion in the marketing and communication planning process. 11. Develop and use external resources as appropriate and needed. 12. Build marketing analytic, metric and evaluation report infrastructure for department. Direct the interpretation and implementation of data driven approach to advancement communications and utilizes data to ensure that messages and results are consistent and align with strategies.
Education
Master’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English or other similar and relevant field required.
Experience/Training
Six (6) or more years of progressively responsible experience, leading a diverse professional staff, including strategic leadership and management of all aspects of marketing and communications, strategic planning and budget development, campaign communications, strategic and crisis communications. Extensive knowledge and experience of marketing principles and industry trends.
