General Summary: This position performs medical laboratory analysis of body fluids and releases component/products for infusion to patients, in compliance with laboratory procedures. Laboratory results are used by the physicians for diagnosis and determination or evaluation of treatments for illnesses of patients. Physicians order blood products for patients to treat certain conditions resulting from illness or injury. Provides patient care/services for all stages of the lifespan including pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Essential Functions:
Ø Follow proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients under any circumstance or environment.
Ø Maintain strict patient confidentiality.
Ø Ensure a safe working environment for self and coworkers by following regulatory agency and organizational policies and procedures.
Ø Perform and report moderately complex laboratory test results accurately and efficiently; may be restricted from performing some procedures in some sections.
Ø Issue blood components for patient transfusions.
Ø Perform clerical and computer tasks associated with specimen, handling, and analysis.
Ø Assist in the collection and transport of patient samples from hospital rooms to the various laboratory sections.
Ø Protect patients from injury and inflection by practicing safety and infection control policies and procedures.
Ø Perform laboratory procedures in accordance with section guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
Ø Demonstrate commitment to the hospital and laboratory department’s philosophy, goals, and standards of laboratory testing.
Ø Practice cost effective measures through appropriate use of laboratory supplies and equipment.
Ø Demonstrate cooperation and ability to assist in the orientation and training of new laboratory personnel.
Required Qualifications:
Ø A minimum of high school diploma is required. Preferred education, certificate, or degree in a medical science.
Ø Experience preferred.
Physical Qualifications:
Ø Walking, standing, sitting throughout shifts.
Ø Lifting weights up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Ø Physical ability to perform basic laboratory procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ø Ability to use instrument computer.
Ø Ability to listen and communicate effectively.
Ø Technical ability and interest.
Ø Ability to work cooperatively.
