    WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR FCMC

    The Pharmacy Director oversees the smooth operation of the pharmacy department by supervising pharmacy staff, ensuring complete compliance with all regulations, working with clinical and non-clinical leaders to meet goals and standards, and participating as a working pharmacist. More specifically, this vital role is responsible for:

    • Preparing work schedules and monitors workload statistics; maintaining an appropriate staffing level and ensures that the pharmacy has 24-hour coverage by a pharmacist
    • Developing competence assessment programs that ensure all pharmacy staff perform all duties and responsibilities with utmost efficiency and safety and in compliance with all regulations; provides timely and constructive feedback
    • Assisting with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, firing, training, and maintaining proper certifications of pharmacy staff
    • Providing and supervising pharmacy services to all patients of Franklin County Medical Center in all areas, such as Hospital, Nursing Home, HomeCare, Emergency Room, and Outpatients
    • Reviewing pharmacy services with other Department Heads regularly to ensure that all needs are being met
    • Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, as well as health system policies and procedures relevant to pharmacy
    • Collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure appropriate medication therapy and promote medication safety; providing hospital staff with timely information relative to new drugs, policies, and standards of care 
    • Overseeing the procurement, storage, and distribution of medications; ensuring accurate inventory management and safe medication practices
    • Overseeing annual inventory count and submitting finalized inventory report to CFO
    • Ensuring that the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Charge Master contains accurate data
    • Ensuring that contracts and financial arrangements are valid, meet applicable requirements, and are reviewed annually
    • Establishing and maintaining strict controls and accountability for all medications stored in the pharmacy and ensures they are dispensed appropriately
    • Maintaining security by authorizing access to the pharmacy and continually monitoring access logs
    • Participating in committees, meetings, and functions as requested, such as Quality Improvement, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and 340B
    • Developing and implementing a process which ensures that the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee efficiently and effectively promotes the safe and cost-effective use of medications within the institution
    • Collaborating with various departments and stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the pharmacy department
    • Periodically revising the Pharmacy Program as necessary to meet the needs of the facility and comply with relevant laws, regulations, and third-party payor program requirements
    • Performs other duties as required




    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy (BS or PharmD)
    • Must have and maintain a current license from the Idaho State Board of Pharmacy
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a pharmacy leadership role, preferably in a healthcare setting
    • Knowledge and experience with pharmacy operations, medication safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
    • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy information systems
    • Familiarity with 340B, Critical Access Hospital (CHA), Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)/Long Term Care (LTC), Home Health, Hospice, and Rural Health Clinic (RHC) rules and regulations


    Essential Job Functions:

    • Regular and predictable attendance is required
    • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment
    • Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports
    • Ability to sit, climb, balance
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
    • Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds at times
    • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities


    Work Environment:

    • FCMC operates 24 hours per day each day of the year: operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the patients
    • The employee generally works under typical office conditions, and the noise level is usually quiet
    • There is occasional exposure to noise from the Laminar Air Flow Hood and/or Biological Safety Cabinet at 50-70 dB
    • Occasional exposure to bodily injury, loud/unpleasant noise, unpleasant odor, emotional or physical stress
    • The employee must be available to be on-call for periods when the pharmacy is closed
