  • POSITION: Director of Guidance LOCATION: Minnechaug Regional High School JOB TYPE: Full Time SALARY: Per the Unit A contract Additional work days (up to 25 days) at per diem rate JOB DESCRIPTION: PLEASE SEE THE COMPLETE JOB DESCRIPTION BELOW QUALIFICATIONS: -Master’s degree in School Counseling -MA Department Elementary and Secondary Education Licensure -Certification Areas: School Counseling (9-12) — required Director / Supervisor — preferred -Minimum 5 years of secondary school counseling experience -Knowledge of ASCA ethical standards and positions on school counseling practices -SEI Endorsement -Valid CORI is required -Suitable “fingerprinting” results are required before employment can begin. PRIMARY FUNCTION: -Department Chair for the Guidance Department and the School Counseling Center: provide effective leadership, program development, activity and event coordination, and evaluation of the school counseling program for grades 9-12. -Coordinate with the administration to ensure adequate funding for department operations. Reports directly to the principal. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: COUNSELING: -Carry an appropriate caseload to balance supervisor responsibilities as designated by the principal. -Responsible for providing all of the services listed in the school counselor’s job description to include personal, academic, and social/emotional counseling. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: -Maintain awareness of the latest research and practices in school counseling to determine what changes may need to be made in school counseling services. -Provide and distribute school counseling-related material. -Coordinate with school personnel in planning and scheduling co-curricular and counseling service activities that support the school counseling program. -Maintain current Developmental Guidance lessons (delivery and curriculum), SUPERVISION: -Oversee the Counseling Center daily activities to include Counseling Program activities, developmental guidance lessons, Naviance use and renewal. -Oversee and assign work, tasks, and duties assigned to the Counseling Center Administrative assistant. -Oversee and assist the other counselors, the School to Career Specialist, and other related service providers in the execution of their duties. -Review the overall effectiveness of the school counseling program and recommends changes for improvement. SCHEDULING: -Assist the Administrative Team in preparing the master schedule and the Program of Studies. -Supervise the scheduling process and course changes throughout the year. -Create and maintain an annual calendar of events for the department. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: -Participate in workshops, conferences, and other professional development programs. -Maintain membership in local, state, and national professional associations. -Attend association meetings when possible and impart information gathered to school counseling personnel. -Disseminate appropriate professional development material to school counseling staff and encourage their participation in professional development programs and the implementation of the ASCA counseling model practices. COORDINATION: -Organize, administer, and coordinate all phases of the school counseling program. -Plan and implement school counseling-related programs for students and parents (i.e., college planning, financial aid, orientation programs). -Coordinate with School Adjustment Counselors, Special Education Department personnel and other service providers to support students. -Conduct monthly department meetings. -Provide counseling related support and information for teachers in support of students. -Organize/coordinate opportunities for students to learn about college, career, and military options for post-graduation (i.e. College Fair, Career Fair, etc). EVALUATION: -Conduct a careful review of the successes and concerns, as well as long-range needs of the school counseling department on a yearly basis. -Provide input to administration on the effectiveness and cooperation of school counselors and the Counseling Center Administrative Assistant. -Make recommendations for changes to improve services and effectiveness. PUBLIC RELATIONS: -Submit periodic reports on school counseling activities and programs to appropriate administration and/or the school committee. -Inform the local media of important events and school counseling-related issues. -Communicate to families, community members, and community organizations of school counseling related programs and activities on a regular basis with newsletter articles, calls home, daily announcements, mailings home, information on electronic platforms. TESTING: -Responsible for coordinating the testing program including, SAT, ACT, PSAT, AP, and ASVAB. -Coordinates all testing materials and implements appropriate security measures. -Assist the Administration with the MCAS testing requirements as needed. -Submit reports to the school committee and/or administration regarding test results as requested. RECORD KEEPING: . -Ensure students’ permanent files are properly maintained. -Ensure that the school acts in accordance with the Massachusetts General Laws regarding student record regulations. REPORTING: -Ensure members of the School Counseling Department have the necessary training to properly file reports that are required to be completed for local, state, and federal agencies (51A). -Provide the Administration, Superintendent, and school committee with reports interpreting and evaluating school counseling-related programs when requested. -Revise the annual school profile for uploading to Naviance. OTHER DUTIES: -Prepare the department’s yearly budget and all materials for the department. -Responsible for updating the School’s information with the NCAA Eligibility Center. -Oversee/coordinate students participating in the Career and Technical Education Center. -Ensure that the members of the School Counseling Department have the necessary training to successfully implement students’ 504 plans, DCAP plans, and works closely with the Director of Student Services, who serves as the District 504 Coordinator. -Serve on the Student Teachers Assistance Team and the Student Success Team. Coordinate the School’s home tutoring program as needed. -Serve as a member of the Administration’s Leadership Team, attends team meetings. -Attend regular meetings with other area school counselor directors to share experiences and keep up-to-date with current trends and issues facing school counseling professionals. -Oversee and assist the School to Career Coordinator in coordinating the Internship Program and Career Readiness Activities. -Implement directives and other duties assigned by the principal.
