    Job Summary and Qualifications

    The Department Director is responsible for personnel, capital and operating budgets, quality-related outcomes, and regulatory compliance in their department(s). The Director reports to the CNO and is a liaison to departments, physicians, administration, patients, guests, and the community. The Director should be visionary as to the opportunities to develop, grow and expand their service line. He / She needs to possess the leadership skills to foster teamwork, professional growth and development of staff, effectively communicate, and create a healthy work environment. The Director also needs to possess the ability to adapt to a changing environment and make decisions under pressure.

    What you will do in this role:

    • The Director will provide leadership and coordination of patient outcomes and metric reporting; support standardization/updating/development of policies and procedures; oversee Magnet efforts in his/her department(s) and support the Magnet culture; understand and support technology related to metric reporting, and collaborate with the nursing leadership team and all clinical/non-clinical directors/managers, hospital CNO and Administrative leadership team.
    • As the Director, you will promote safe, evidence-based care in a manner that supports excellence in patient care and meets/exceeds expected quality outcomes.
    • You will have a working knowledge of national quality databases; such as, NDNQI and other department specific organizational governing bodies.
    • You will oversee/coordinate all departmental operations/initiatives in a manner that supports the organization, hospital, Nursing and department strategies and goals.
    • As the Director, you will maintain oversight of all nursing practice activities.
    • You will be responsible to oversee staffing in your respective department(s) to ensure competent staff are scheduled to meet the level of acuity and census in the department(s).
    • You will support/encourage the professional development of staff, to include higher education and specialty certification.
    • You will also ensure sufficient in-service education and training is provided to maintain staff competency with patient care in their respective department(s).
    • As the Director , you are expected to foster teamwork, build a culture of accountability, and uphold the highest standards of care.

    What qualifications you will need:

    • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required, BSN
    • 5 years or more Management experience as Clinical or Director Level position required
    • Master’s Degree in health related field preferred
    • Must hold a current license from the Kentucky State Board of Nursing
    • Current BCLS required upon hire
    • Professional Association certification preferred within 1 year
    • Minimum of 5 years management experience managing a clinical unit
    • Clinical experience evidenced by specialty training specific to the nursing area
    • Progressive nursing leadership experience demonstrating solid management is necessary for this nursing position.
    • The Nursing Director should have the ability to carry out all responsibilities in a thorough and timely manner.
    • Excellent communication (verbal, written), interpersonal, organizational, leadership, exceptional interpersonal relations and problem solving skills required.
