Band/Choir Director - Nessacus Regional Middle School

  • POSITION:             Middle School Band/Choir Director

     

    Job Description:
    Direct and manage the overall program of instrument and vocal music. Provides students with opportunities to participate in extracurricular band activities in the community, and sanctioned events. Ensure compliance with all state and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district, community, region and state recognition.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:            

    1. Ability to be punctual and maintain regular attendance.
    2. General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use email, internet, word processing and related band computer software. Must learn other software used by the district such as Noteflight.                       

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Communicate with principal/counselor regarding scheduling and staff needs.

    2. Cooperates with the school administration in providing music programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and, as appropriate, civic functions that enhance the students’ performing experience.

    3. Oversees scheduling and other arrangements for the rehearsal and concerts in cooperation with the building principal.

    4. Prepares students and required documents for District and State auditions and competitions. Make all arrangements.

    5. Maintains an accurate inventory of school-owned instruments and music library. Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.

    6. Submits budget needs annually to the principal in accordance with establishment timeline and guidelines.

    7. Orders all supplies and materials necessary for band-related activities in accordance with established district procedures and budget allocations.

    8. Teaches skills in instrumental music in small and large group settings (band, instrument Specific lessons) to middle school (grades 6-8) middle school pupils.

    9. Plans a balanced music program, and organizes class time tso that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within allocated time.

    10. Encourages pupils to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.

    11. Cooperates with school administration in providing musical programs for school related activities and community functions. Prepares at least two public concerts per school year.

    12. Establishes clear outcomes for all lessons, class work and projects. The outcomes are communicated to students.

    Education/Certification:   

    1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
    2. Valid Massachusetts teaching license.

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    1. Ability to manage budget.
    2. Knowledge of state policies governing band and choir activities.
    3. Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.

    Preferred Experience:

    1. Three years of teaching band in a public school setting.
    2. Experience as an Assistant or Associate band director.

    REPORTS TO:              

    Principal and/or other Supervisor

     

    SALARY: 

    In accordance teachers' contract.
