    Overview

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The CSC Program Manager is responsible for the administration, oversight, leadership, and supervision of the Cancer Support Community program operations. The incumbent will have oversight of providing cancer support services for community members affected by cancer. By coordinating with clinical facilitators and adjunct instructors, the incumbent will provide services in accordance with CSC and TCRHCC standards and policies and procedures.  The incumbent will manage the program budget, maintain program statistics and reports, and work closely with the Oncology Services team to provide programmatic consultation as it relates to general operations, outreach, and marketing, grant writing and reporting and, on an as needed basis, fundraising activities. The CSC Program Manager must embody the highest professional standards and demonstrate warmth and compassion while working with members, staff, volunteers, and others in building and maintaining a sense of community.

    Qualifications

    NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Master of Social Work (MSW)

    License/Certification:

    Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

    Experience:

    Six-months post-graduate social work or case management experience or experience in facilitating support groups

    Other Skills and Abilities:

    A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.  All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:

    • Strong clinical skills, including individual and support group experience and ability to work with issues surrounding chronic and life-threatening illness
    • Demonstrated administrative skills, including planning, organizing, scheduling, budget management, statistical and program reports, and innovative program development
    • Commitment to working as a team member in a supportive community and willingness to network and consult with other CSC affiliate sites and the CSC Headquarters office
    • Ability to administer and abide by CSC and TCRHCC policies and procedures while maintaining a warm, professional, personal, informative, and effective program
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels (members, donors, staff, public), including public speaking at important events and presenting at educational internal and external trainings
    • Ability to work a varied and flexible schedule, including evenings and Saturdays
    • Skilled at working on a computer specifically Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other databases
    • Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences
    • Completion of and above-satisfactory scores on all job interviews, demonstrating to the satisfaction of the interviewees and TCRHCC that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job 
    • Successful completion of and positive results from all background and reference checks, including positive employment references from authorized representatives of past and current employers demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC a record of satisfactory performance and that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job

    MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

    Physical:

    Work requires prolonged periods of standing; walking; siting; talking or hearing; and use of hands to finger, handle, or feel. Work requires occasional times stopping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and pushing or pulling. Work also requires extensive periods of time working at a personal computer. Must be able to lift 20 pounds (i.e., boxes of patient education materials) often; and up to 50 pounds occasionally. This position requires the ability to hear alarms on equipment, client calls, instructions from physicians/department staff, and overhead pages over a loudspeaker. Incumbent must be able to distinguish numbers, letters, and colors; as well as have vision for close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus as needed. This position does require the ability to do repetitive motion actions of both hands including the ability to frequently grasp simple/light and fine dexterity often with occasional grasp firm/heavy. The incumbent must be able occasionally use both feet for repetitive motion actions as well.

    Mental:

    Contacts often require tact and sensitivity as those related to stressful situations such as death, dying and catastrophic illnesses. Must be able to prioritize, use good judgment, and coordinate a variety of issues while being frequently interrupted.  The incumbent performs difficult and complex assignments that encompass a variety of activities and requirements.  The work requires the ability to deal relatively independently with the interrelated elements that affect patient services and assessed needs to resolve or prevent any delays in service and any other controversial matters that may arise.  The work requires diversity in professional social work and compliance knowledge and experience.

    Environmental:

    This job requires exposure to the following environmental conditions: prolonged exposure to fumes or airborne particles; occasional exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather); working near moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation; and vibration. The typical noise level for the work environment is quiet to moderate.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • In collaboration with other CSC program staff and TCRHCC staff leadership, develops strategic goals and objectives as it relates to program delivery, reach and evaluation.
  • Develop content for the CSC program, creating calendar descriptions, program flyers and regularly evaluate member satisfaction and facilitator and program effectiveness using workshop evaluations, and annual surveys.
  • Facilitate a weekly support group and monthly networking groups with consideration to spiritual wellness and cultural sensitivity needs. Plan and implement regular social events for members, including the opening and closing of educational workshops and special programs.
  • Establish and maintain administrative procedures for tracking and implementing member groups, newcomer meetings, educational workshops, mind-body programs, member social events and other relevant member-focused programs.
  • Oversee the collection of program and member statistical data (i.e., member registration forms, group rosters, group notes/files, and member activity sheets), and the timely submission of quarterly Program Statistics Reports to CSC main office and other reports as required by CSC. Utilize this data to assess program utilization trends and to plan for program expansion and/or reductions if necessary.
  • Update and review written materials given to the public that all information about the program properly and accurately reflects the programs and services rendered and CSC Program Standards.
  • Create and monitor an annual budget for all member-related programs while assisting in grant writing, data reporting.
  • Handle correspondence related to workshop-confirmation letters, thank you notes, and in conjunction with marketing/outreach staff, oversee placement of events notices in various media outlets.
  • Develop relationships and opportunities for partnering with other service providers, e.g., American Cancer Society, local Oncology Nursing Society chapter, etc.; and speak at healthcare engagements and other forums as needed.
  • Represent CSC at regional CSC meetings, the annual Affiliate Leadership Conference, and other professional meetings.
  • Work cohesively with public relations, partnership oncology programs, and with the Navajo Hopi Health Foundation in fundraising activities.
  • Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield.
  • Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates)
  • Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction.
