Regulatory Affairs Director oversees regulatory matters and executes the strategy to ensure the organization complies with applicable regulations. Develops processes and systems to ensure that all necessary licensing, filings, certifications, and permits are processed and monitored. Being a Regulatory Affairs Director establishes monitoring policies and procedures to ensure compliance with existing regulations. Anticipates new or changing regulations and coordinates with internal stakeholders to develop strategies to address changes in product, operations, or testing requirements. Additionally, Regulatory Affairs Director investigates and addresses any reported issues of non-compliance. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Regulatory Affairs Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Regulatory Affairs Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Description
    We would love to have you join our team at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture! Our department provides services and programs across the Commonwealth which benefit every Kentuckian each day.

    This position is in the Office of Agricultural Marketing, Organic Section.

    The Agricultural Regulatory Specialist I job duties will include:
    • Conduct first and final reviews of applicants, which will require training in the National Organic Program standards.
    • Conduct inspections of operations certified to the National Organic Program.
    • Interpret organics standards and clarify departmental policies and procedures to public and departmental employees.
    • Maintains the Kentucky Organic Producers database and program.
    • Correspond with the National Organics Program to facilitate Kentucky's cost-share program when applicable.
    • Participate in training sessions and professional development activities.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements
    EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

    Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in agriculture, inspection, quality control, regulatory, chemical application or application or inspection of pesticides or restricted chemicals, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.


    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.

    Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
    Working Conditions
    Typical working conditions will require travel to such places as stockyards, farms, businesses, and amusement parks. Has close contact with livestock animals in such areas as stockyards, barns and/or barnyards.
    Probationary Period
    This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
