Regulatory Affairs Director oversees regulatory matters and executes the strategy to ensure the organization complies with applicable regulations. Develops processes and systems to ensure that all necessary licensing, filings, certifications, and permits are processed and monitored. Being a Regulatory Affairs Director establishes monitoring policies and procedures to ensure compliance with existing regulations. Anticipates new or changing regulations and coordinates with internal stakeholders to develop strategies to address changes in product, operations, or testing requirements. Additionally, Regulatory Affairs Director investigates and addresses any reported issues of non-compliance. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Regulatory Affairs Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Regulatory Affairs Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.   • Job Summary

    The Director of Federal Government Affairs will be a member of the US Federal Government Affairs and Policy team, which drives the company's policy agenda in Congress and the Administration. This role supports the Senior Director of Federal Government Affairs and plays a key role for the Government Affairs function. The Director will significantly contribute to the analysis, development, and execution of a comprehensive engagement strategy focusing on federal government stakeholders, especially the U.S. Congress and Administration. This role will work collaboratively with members of the Government Affairs team to help implement coordinated federal advocacy strategies with policymakers and officials on issues that impact Otsuka's business, medical science, and patient needs.

    Job Description

    Key Roles and Responsibilities

    • Maintain, establish, and cultivate relationships with Members of Congress and relevant personal office and Committee staff to create value-add opportunities that raise the company's visibility in Washington, DC, and promote Otsuka's public policy objectives

    • This role will work to advance Otsuka's business priorities on Capitol Hill and to defend the enterprise against harmful policy proposals

    • This position will also work collaboratively with internal, cross-functional teams

    • Assist in the development, and participate in the execution, of congressional engagement strategies; ability to work effectively in a team and cross-functionally with multiple internal departments

    • Drive federal policy development on issues including, but not limited to, mental health, nephrology, and health equity through cross-functional engagement with internal subject matter experts

    • Understand the company's business goals and priorities; and work closely with colleagues throughout corporate affairs to advance shared goals

    • Engage and demonstrate leadership with trade associations and/or coalitions in which Otsuka participates; maintain strong working relationships with key influencers

    • Serve as a resource to business colleagues and internal work groups on emerging legislative and political issues of importance to Otsuka;

    • Actively participate in the federal political action committee (PAC) and the grassroots political program, by representing Otsuka at political events for key Members of Congress and campaign committees

    • Help develop, track and execute US Otsuka PAC's annual candidate support budget

    Qualifications/ Required

    Knowledge/ Experience and Skills:

    • Bachelor's degree required

    • 8 years of relevant work experience in government, government affairs, public affairs, or policy; Capitol Hill experience preferred

    • Experience working with and managing high level executives -ability to manage and prioritize multiple issues and tasks, and the ability to work on complex projects with tight deadlines

    • Strong preference is for a government affairs leader with experience at a major company or association, a long-term Congressional staffer, or a public servant in a relevant government department or agency

    • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communications, and strategic thinking capabilities

    • Robust understanding of pharmaceutical supply chain issues, as well as the health care landscape generally

    • Proficiency in standard business software applications

    • Strong network and relationships with key Congressional stakeholders

    • Excellent written and oral communication

    • Familiarity with political action committees

    • Some travel required (up to 20%)

    Minimum $179,721.00 - Maximum $268,755.00, plus incentive opportunity: The range shown represents a typical pay range or starting salary for candidates hired to perform the work. Other elements may be used to determine actual salary such as the candidate's job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in role.
