    Description of Duties:

    The Business Office at The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) in Syracuse, NY, invites applications for The Director of Business Affairs. This position plays a key role in the direction and successful delivery of financial services by developing, implementing, and monitoring major policies for business operations and gives overall guidance to the accounting, purchasing, property control, payroll, print shop, accounts payable, and student financial services offices. Will ensure accuracy of information provided and work with the CFO to ensure required reporting within these areas is completed. The director is responsible for the collaboration with individuals on campus at all levels and roles to ensure the University's financial policies, procedures, operations, and practices are efficient and effective in meeting the strategic goals and objectives of the institution.

    Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:

    • Accounting Services- oversight of revenue functions within Business Affairs to include accounts receivable management, general ledger account reconciliations related to revenue reporting. Completion of reporting requirements related to student financial services for SUNY System, as well as federal and state agencies.
    • Student Financial Services- oversight of the student accounts office to include cash management, student billing, student accounts receivable management, completion or delegation of account reconciliations related to revenue recognition and financial aid disbursements, revenue projections and reconciliations for campus and system administration, monitor scholarships, assistantships and other financial aid disbursements for accuracy and application to current approved enrollment plan. Responsible for the completion and/or delegation and review of federal, state and/or SUNY periodic reporting.
    • Procurement- coordinates purchasing activities including delegation of purchasing responsibilities, adheres to procurement policy and approval of purchase orders/contracts within pre-established dollar limits.
    • Accounts Payable- providing interpretation and communication of NYS Office of State Controller Guide to Financial Operations related to the payment process to ensure internal controls testing for NYS Advisory 28 is successful and able to identify weaknesses and implement corrective action plans if identified.
    • Responsible for maintaining unit wide assessment records and monitoring and supporting unit in assessment efforts.
    • Provide leadership, oversight and direction to direct reports to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the Institution's goals and strategies.
    • Design and implement operating strategies, plans and procedures to assure smooth functioning of SUNY ESF's Business Office. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication.
    • Complete performance management feedback and goals per requirements.
    • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements:


    Required Qualifications:

    • BS degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field from an accredited institution.
    • 5-7 years of experience in a supervisory/management role.
    • Managerial and Project Management Skills
    • Advances Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, Power Point)
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally
    • High level of attention to detail, organization, project management skills, and possess analytical skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Certified Public Accountant
    • Masters Degree in business, accounting or another related field
    • SUNY or NYS Finance Experience in the areas of Accounting, Budgeting, Procurement and/or Student Financial Services
    • Experience with Banner and Argos
