Regulatory Affairs Specialist supports the oversight of regulatory matters and strategy implementation to ensure the organization complies with applicable regulations. Prepares filings and tracks applications for licensing, certification, and permits and interacts with governmental officials during the regulation and certification process. Being a Regulatory Affairs Specialist monitors compliance with existing regulations and upcoming or changing regulations. Performs impact analysis of regulatory changes and produces status reports. Additionally, Regulatory Affairs Specialist participates in processes to report, investigate, and addresses any issues of non-compliance. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Regulatory Affairs Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Description
    We would love to have you join our team at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture! Our department provides services and programs across the Commonwealth which benefit every Kentuckian each day.

    This position is in the Office of Agricultural Marketing, Organic Section.

    The Agricultural Regulatory Specialist I job duties will include:
    • Conduct first and final reviews of applicants, which will require training in the National Organic Program standards.
    • Conduct inspections of operations certified to the National Organic Program.
    • Interpret organics standards and clarify departmental policies and procedures to public and departmental employees.
    • Maintains the Kentucky Organic Producers database and program.
    • Correspond with the National Organics Program to facilitate Kentucky's cost-share program when applicable.
    • Participate in training sessions and professional development activities.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements
    EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

    Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in agriculture, inspection, quality control, regulatory, chemical application or application or inspection of pesticides or restricted chemicals, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.


    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.

    Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
    Working Conditions
    Typical working conditions will require travel to such places as stockyards, farms, businesses, and amusement parks. Has close contact with livestock animals in such areas as stockyards, barns and/or barnyards.
    Probationary Period
    This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
