    Outreach and engagement (O&E) is one of the most important aspects of any science project in the Arctic and at its most fundamental levels requires patience and perseverance. UIC Science has built a solid O&E program over the last 5 years and this position will continue to expand on that foundation. The Science Liaison will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities as they work to respond to O&E contract positions and:

    Responsibilities

    • Report to the O&E Manager and support the team’s O&E program• Ensuring that the community concerns are understood and communicated• Provide advice on approaches or strategies for addressing these concerns and supports implementation of company priorities• Liaise with various local and non-local entities and institutions and manage contact information• Set up and manage local outreach and engagement events• Develop an outreach program for the local schools to encourage researchers to bring their research into the classrooms and foster an exchange of knowledge• Prepare estimates of O&E project cost and scope for proposals• Coordinate field tours, community meetings, events and advisory groups• Maintain records of all events attended or hosted on company drive• Other Duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:• Experience working in a science or educational field is preferred• 3 years working on the North Slope and other Alaska rural communities.• Bachelors of Science or similar experience preferred.

    • Intermediate level proficiency with MS O365: Excel, Word, Outlook , PowerPoint, and audio/visual equipment• Applicant must be willing to travel.• Applicant must have experience presenting to large groups.• Any applicants that have past O&E Experience will be looked upon more favorably.• Applicant must be familiar or have work in and around Indigenous Communities in the Arctic.• Valid State Driver’s License• Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing

     

    Required Experience:• 3 years working on the North Slope and other Alaska rural communities.• Valid State Driver’s License• Applicant must have experience presenting to large groups.• Applicant must be willing to travel.

    Authorized Driver Requirement: Employee must have a valid driver’s license and three (3) year clean driving record. Employee must follow all Authorized Driver Policy and Procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.

     

    Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs

    All employees must pass Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all UIC Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and requirements.

    If working on a DOT project, employees must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
