    JOB SUMMARY :

    The Student Support Coordinator is responsible for student success through the implementation, integration, alignment, and coordination of the community school strategy, linking community resources to the school, and assisting students in the progress of their academic and behavioral success.

    The coordinator will work directly with students, school staff, and families, identifying barriers that limit student success and will develop strategies and resources to improve attendance, reduce behavior incidents, promote family and community

    engagement, and increase student achievement.

    LOCATION : Hamilton Elementary School

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

    • Meet regularly with the school principal and other key school staff to review resources needed for the student body to succeed, and assist in the identification of students in need of human resources, behavioral health services, medical health services, and youth development services.
    • Implement the Community School Standards.
    • Conduct screenings and assessments to determine the needs of the child / adolescent to appropriately address / connect him / her to Behavioral Health Services.
    • Work with school leadership to maintain a focus on results and to track progress using SWIS data, EWIs, etc.
    • Organize and oversee assets and needs assessments, and seek input from teachers, school staff, parents, and students to determine the ongoing needs of students and families.
    • Serve as a point person for agencies and programs interested in partnering with the school, and help to broker new partnerships that are aligned with school goals and needs.
    • Develop strong relationships with teachers, parents, and students.
    • Work with the School Leadership Team to identify needs, set priorities, and coordinate strategy.
    • Participate in all meetings and professional development activities associated with the community school’s initiative as required.

    • Solicit feedback from students, families, school staff, and partners. Prepare and submit intervention data monthly, and complete all requested paperwork and reports promptly.
    • Actively promote improved communication regarding human services, behavioral health, and medical health services between the parents, principal, teachers, staff, and community partners.
    • Engage with students individually to address behavioral needs and / or conduct small groups to teach behavioral skills.
    • Respond to and de-escalate student behavior in the moment, as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following :

    • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
    • Knowledge of child development, behavioral health, and medical health assessment.
    • Experience networking and creating community partnerships.
    • Direct experience working with children, youth, and families of diverse experiences.
    • Possess and demonstrate an understanding of various cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
    • Strong collaborative, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Positive and can do’ attitude that can tolerate a high level of frustration.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences. Excellent communication skills (verbal, nonverbal, written).
    • Excellent organization and time management skills.

    Knowledge of basic computing platforms (word processing, spreadsheets, Internet, email, databases).

    • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and adequate insurance with a car available at all times.
    • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

    • Required : Master’s degree in social work or related field- LLMSW, LMSW, LLP, TLLP, LLPC, LPC, School Psychologist, or MA in Psychology (or anticipated by the start date).
    • Employment experience : 3-5 years within a human service, behavioral health, education, or other related field preferred.
    • Familiarity with schools and non-profit organizations within Allegan and Ottawa counties, the state, and nationally. Having previous experience with establishing community-school partnerships is preferred.
    • Ability to understand and work effectively within the dynamics of various agencies, public schools, and others.

    REPORTS TO : Building Principal and Student Services Director

    START DATE : August 1, 2024

    SALARY RANGE : 200-Day Coordinator Contract, salary is commensurate with experience and training
