Regulatory Relations Liaison is responsible for filing necessary applications and handling all government interactions pertaining to the regulation and certification process for a plant or other facility. Develops procedures to ensure regulatory compliance. Being a Regulatory Relations Liaison prepares reports for top management detailing projects that may impact the organization's regulation status. May represent the organization before federal or state legislations. Additionally, Regulatory Relations Liaison requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Regulatory Relations Liaison typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Regulatory Relations Liaison typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     JOB SUMMARY:

    Is responsible for the planning, executing, directing and evaluating the nursing care given to the patient. The role is defined as the pre-procedure, intra-procedure and the post-procedure period. May have contact with the patient in each phase of the endoscopy experience. The responsibility includes the preparation assembly and organization of the environment, equipment and supplies necessary to perform the activities necessary for the preparation and the recovery of the ambulatory patient.

    JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

    Responsible to: Nurse Manager

    Interrelationships: Must have an effective working relationship with co-workers, members of the medical community, patients, family and the community.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

    • Supervises nursing activities related to patient care and sets standards for accurate reporting and recording of patient’s symptoms, reactions and progress.
    • Provides input and standards in formulating patient care policy and procedures for the Center. Works with the medical staff to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care.
    • Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment.
    • Serves as a resource in areas of expertise to other staff members.
    • Participates in the preparation of the patient for their procedure.
    • Performs the pre-admission assessment.
    • Provides pre-procedure instructions.
    • Ascertains that all appropriate data is in the patient’s record prior to admission or immediately following admission and prior to procedure.
    • Communicates abnormal and/or extensive medical history to the physician as soon as discovered.
    • Maintains communication with reception areas and procedure rooms to assure efficient movement of patients.
    • Assists preparation of medications.
    • Admits the patient in the pre-procedure area and follows the admission protocols.
    • Checks signed consent prior to beginning case and performs a time out.
    • At the beginning of the day, checks to see that necessary supplies required by the day’s procedure schedule are available in the procedure rooms.
    • Prepares patient for procedure by verifying patient identity and scheduled procedure, and assists patient into procedure room.
    • Helps to relieve patient’s apprehension before and during administration of conscious sedation.
    • Makes available additional instruments and supplies as requested during the procedure.
    • Documents and labels specimens clearly and correctly.
    • Assists in transferring patient to PACU.
    • Is responsible to assure that supplies for each case are ready for use.
    • Is responsible for maintaining a safe environment during the procedure.
    • Assists in cleaning of room after each case.
    • Assists with post-procedure call to patient and documents call and patient’s responses on patient’s record.
    • Tasks inventory and restock supplies as needed.
    • Receives patient from the procedure room, assesses patient’s condition on admission and discharge, and documents on PACU record.
    • Closely observes and monitors the post-procedure patient by taking vital signs, EKG (if required) and documenting patient’s progress while in PACU.
    • Administers medications, IV’s and treatments; maintain records regarding dispensing of same; observes patient’s reaction and acts appropriately in the event of adverse reactions.
    • Performs/assists physicians in other procedures as requested.
    • Assures patient that he/she is not, and will not be, left alone in the recovery areas.
    • Provides a summary of post-procedure instructions to patient prior to discharge from the unit.
    • Makes sure patient has information for follow-up appointment before being discharged.
    • In an emergency situation, is able to give immediate respiratory assistance or support, including use of AMBU bag, airway tubes; administers CPR; assists with endotracheal tubes and defibrillation, and performs venipuncture.
    • Knows and maintains CODE Blue/crash cart.
    • Recognizes and utilizes safety precautions and procedures.
    • Remains familiar with equipment and supplies, including, location, and upkeep.
    • Assists in restocking units as needed.
    • Maintains a comfortable, orderly, clean, safe environment in the recovery areas.
    • Adhere to all OSHA regulations and participate in annual reviews, attend inservices for employee safety and injury prevention within the workplace

    INFECTION CONTROL CATEGORY:

    This job is designated as a Category I job using the OSHA definitions. This means there are tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material. Use of appropriate protective measures are required for any employee engaged in Category I tasks.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    RN with current NY state license

    Current CPR certification

    Current ACLS certification (If applicable)

    Previous Endoscopy experience, one year preferred

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
