Muscatine Schools is hiring for a Special Education Medicaid Support and Parent Liaison position. This is a salaried, Classified Professional position. This position is full-time, 8 hours per day, and assigned 190 days during the school year. This is not a 12-months/year position. The starting salary for this position is $45,000 mileage reimbursement. This position reports to the Director of Student Services. All employees are required to complete MCSD's pre-employment process to include a background check and onboarding with the Human Resources Department. 

Bilingual preferred or highly desired. 

Qualifications Required:

• At least three (3) years of special education experience including but not limited to special education teaching, consulting, and/or parent/student special education advocacy
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to build trusting relationships
• Exceptional customer service

Responsibilities: 

• Assist educators in Medicaid billing processes
• Represent the district in attending all initial placement IEP’s meetings PK - 12
• Maintain procedures, reports, and training for submitting Medicaid reimbursement for students in grades PK - 12.
• Work collaboratively with special education students, families, school personnel, and community agencies to assess student needs and to develop/implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Assist with compiling, maintaining, and monitoring data within the ACHIEVE system.
• Meet periodically  with AEA team representatives and AEA sector coordinator.
• Member of the Project Search team, SPED Parent Council group
• Facilitate, coordinate, and explain services post-secondary transitions for all special education students
• Provides consultation, support, and facilitator to parents and families around special education procedures, IEP questions, and problem-solving situations or questions around special education and IEP topics.
• Works directly with parents and building leaders to mediate and resolve problems, find solutions to difficult situations and to reconcile conflicting positions regarding students with disabilities
• Communicates frequently with the Director of Student Services about issues related to Medicaid, IEP procedures, and parent concerns/questions
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
