Rehabilitation Director directs the programs and staff of the rehabilitation services department. Sets and implements guidelines for rehabilitation programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and other therapies. Being a Rehabilitation Director develops and implements policies and procedures pertaining to staffing and the budget for the department. Maintains working relationships with community agencies. Additionally, Rehabilitation Director monitors treatment and progress of patients. May require an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Rehabilitation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Rehabilitation Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. 1. Coordinates the operations of the rehab department 24/7 to meet Patient needs, the budget and federal and state regulations.
2. Coordinates the assignment of rehab admissions and distribution of caseloads to staff therapists and therapy contractors in an appropriate manner.
3. Provides direct patient care on a daily/weekly basis (up to 50% of the day depending on location). Assures that Patients admitted for treatment receive required therapy services and service delivery is documented appropriately.
4. Serves as a case manager for Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Insurance patients or other complex cases to assure that the rehab teams meets rehab targets and MDS responsibilities under PDPM.
